South of the Thames

Over the festive period I went out with my Sprocket Rocket again for a stroll along the south side of the Thames. The last time I used my Sprocket Rocket I took a lot of photos of buildings in Canary Wharf. This time I wanted to see if the camera was also useful for capturing other things.

I took these photos on Ilford HP5 Plus film. The challenges of taking photos with a non-digital camera are:

  1. You are stuck with one ISO setting
  2. The photos will be black and white with the HP5 Plus so you have to imagine the colour scene as it would appear in black and white
  3. You can’t see the results straight away.

One of the things I love about black and white film though is developing the film myself. It’s so exciting to see the results.

I think I accidentally left the shutter on Bulb for this next photo but I really like the effect.

It was darker than usual in the Tate Modern because of the latest installation in the main hall so for the next 2 photos below I placed the camera on a railing and held the shutter button down for 2-3 seconds to get let enough light into the camera.
